Meet Gwen Quackenboss, Associate Media Analyst at AKCG – Public Relations Counselors. In her role, Gwen supports the media analysis team and works with both of the firm’s practices, crisis and media relations, to provide detailed reports and analyses of media coverage.
What led you to a career in communications?
I have always loved writing, meeting new people, and following current events. Communications is the perfect mix of all three! Studying public relations in college affirmed that the field is right for me.
How have your experiences in your college career and internships contributed to the work you will do at AKCG?
I studied public relations (BA) and public policy (MPP) at Temple University and feel fortunate to have had a variety of opportunities that prepared me for my role. During my undergraduate studies, I had internships that honed my skills as a writer and PR strategist. Graduate school strengthened my research and analytical skills, which I use every day as a media analyst at AKCG.
What motivated you to join the AKCG Team?
Crisis communication piqued my interest because it’s fast–paced and challenging. I first heard about AKCG in college through a professor, so when I saw the job posting, I knew that it was a great opportunity to explore my interests. During the interview process, it became clear that AKCG was a supportive and collaborative environment where I could grow and thrive.
How do you stay up to date on industry trends and practices?
I stay updated on trends in a variety of ways. I love reading The New York Times and NPR. As a Gen Zer, I must admit that I also get news via social media which often allows me to flex my news literacy skills.
And while we’re here: do you have any hobbies?
I love trying new things and since graduating college, I have become a hobby fanatic! My current hobbies include golfing, running, reading and learning Spanish. I’m always open to new activities and hobby recs!
