Kayla Robinson, a graduating senior at Rowan University, was an intern at AKCG Public Relations Counselors for Spring 2026. Kayla shares her experience below.

Can you describe your internship experience at AKCG?

I began my internship at AKCG in January 2026 and will complete it in May. Over the past four months, this experience has been incredibly impactful. I have grown significantly both professionally and personally, and I feel much more confident in my skills and overall career direction.

During my time at AKCG, I learned how to create and update media lists, draft and send pitches to reporters, conduct targeted research to support my team, and more.

Before working here, I was unsure of my path after graduation. Now, as a senior graduating in two weeks, I can confidently say that I want to pursue a career in public relations, largely because of the experience and exposure I gained at AKCG.

What information/experience did you find most rewarding during your time at AKCG?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my time here at AKCG was participating in meetings and feeling comfortable asking questions when I needed clarification. Being involved in meetings helped me better understand the work the team was doing, especially since I had less time on thaccount compared to the rest. Asking questions has been very beneficial to my learning and growth, and I appreciate that everyone was so open and willing to help. The supportive environment made it easy to speak up and helped me feel more confident and comfortable throughout my experience.

Can you describe one of your favorite projects you worked on?

One of my favorite projects was working on a media outreach project for one of our senior living clients, where we aimed to highlight the Director of Nursing and recognize her dedication and impact.

I started by conducting in-depth research on the client and identifying the right media opportunities. From there, I developed two tailored pitches, one for a podcast opportunity and another for McKnight’s Long-Term Care News.

As a result of our outreach, we received interest from McKnight’s Long-Term Care News, and her story is expected to be published within the next month. It was rewarding to see the full process from research to pitching to securing coverage.

What advice would you give to future AKCG interns?

One piece of advice I’d give to future AKCG interns is to make the most of your experience. Do not be afraid to ask questions and take initiative when opportunities arise. Everyone is willing to help and support your growth, so staying engaged and open to learning will make your experience even more valuable.

I would also encourage you to enjoy the experience and be present in your day-to-day work. Pay attention to what you enjoy and what challenges you, as this will help guide your career decisions moving forward. This internship is an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in public relations, and you will be surrounded by supportive and talented professionals.
