This week, meet Emily Kowalenko, an associate for AKCG – Public Relations Counselors, where she works with the firm’s energy and senior-living clients in the media relations and thought leadership practice. Learn more about Emily below.
Why did you want to pursue a career in public relations?
I originally wanted to work in Early Childhood Education, but after speaking with my friend’s mom, a public relations associate, I knew public relations was for me. I loved the idea of being able to help clients pursue their goals and dreams. In addition, working in public relations allows you to learn valuable skills and interact with amazing professionals.
What influenced your decision to join the AKCG team?
I have known about AKCG throughout my time at Rowan University and have had several opportunities to speak with AKCG team members. In addition, I always enjoyed talking with the AKCG team at networking events and Q&As at Rowan’s PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) events. So, when I saw the job posting on LinkedIn, I was excited and applied immediately!
And just for fun: do you have a love of anything in particular?
I absolutely love animals and enjoy spending time with my pets. I have a guinea pig, a tortoise and a tiger salamander. I also enjoy sharing facts about my animals. When I was in high school, I used to work at a daycare, and I would bring my animals to the daycare for Animal Day. I would teach the children facts about my animals and let them touch them since not many children can hold or touch a salamander and tortoise up close.
